Venison
Venison is a lean, dark and tender meat and although farmed all year round is coming into season right now so perfect for getting juicy cuts. Not only has Venison got more protein than beef, 22g per 100g compared to beef’s 20g, it contains 1 sixth of the saturated fat. Perfect for building lean muscle or for a low fat calorie controlled diet. 100g of raw venison contains:
- 111 Calories
- 3g Fat
- 1g Saturated Fat
- 22g Protein
- 18mg Cholesterol
High in B vitamins as well as having a decent serving of Iron, plus it has significantly less cholesterol than beef so perfect for people with coronary heart disease. For my article of coronary heart disease click here.
- Niacin & Riboflavin: Helps convert carbohydrates into energy, promotes healthy skin. Digestion and normal nerve function.
- Thiamin: Almost important to convert carbohydrates into energy, and for normal functioning of nerves, brain and muscles.
- Iron: Involved in red blood cell formation and oxygen transport therefore improving aerobic performance. Can also help prevent and treat anaemia.
Although it can be more expensive than traditional meats you will find in the supermarket the benefits are definitely worth spending the extra from time to time. It is always recommended mixing up your protein sources especially when trying to build muscle, and it’s never a bad thing to have variety in your diet just to keep you motivated. So, if you are bored of just eating chicken all day might be worth it just for the variety alone. Stuck for ideas?
